The Sognefjord in a nutshell tour can be started from Oslo, Bergen and Voss. There are many alternative travel routes and options you can take from both cities. Round trip from Oslo

Day 1: Oslo - Balestrand

On the first day you travel from Oslo to Balestrand, enjoying scenic train rides on the Bergen- and Flam Railway and a cruise on the "King of the fjords", the Sognefjord. On the fjord cruise with the express boat from Flåm to Balestrand you are passing by stunning waterfalls and small and charming villages by the fjord. You arrive Balestrand in the afternoon and check in at your hotel.

In the evening a relaxing walk in this beautiful art village is recommendable and why not stop by at the Norwegian Museum of Travel and Tourism to learn more about the fascinating history of Norwegian tourism?

Day 2: Balestrand - Bergen

After a good night's sleep, you wake up to a new day with exciting adventures waiting for you. Since the Sognefjord in a nutshell tour does not go into the UNESCO Nærøyfjord, a fjord safari from Balestrand to the Nærøyfjord is "a must". It is also possible to join in on a kayak trip on the fjord or perhaps you want to go to Fjærland to explore the Boyarbreen glacier and the Norwegian Glacier Museum? The options are many, check them all out HERE!

After a day in Balestrand it is time to continue the trip to Bergen by the express boat on the Sognefjord. The Sognefjord is not only the longest fjord in Norway, it is also an area of exceptional natural beauty. On the boat ride you go from the innermost narrow part of the Sognefjord to the open coastal scenery with its islets and reefs.

After an exciting day on the fjord, you arrive Bergen in the evening and it is quite a sight to see the "city among the seven mountains" reveals itself from sea side! You check into your hotel and can take a late evening walk along the Bryggen Harbour in Bergen, included on the UNESCO World Heritage list, before you go to sleep.

Day 3: Bergen - Oslo

The next day, Bergen is a city well worth exploring, and a fun and interesting way to see the city is on a guided segway tour. For those who like action, the Via Ferrata in Herdla is a good choice. If you have the time, spend some extra days in Bergen before returning to Oslo. Bergen has a wide range of activities and sights well worth seeing, check HERE

After your stay in Bergen, it is time to return to Oslo by the Bergen railway, enjoying one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. Spend some days in the Norwegian Capital and enjoy the many things this great city has to offer. Add whatever catches your interest to your tour!

Food during the tour

There are no meals included in the tour package, but no worries, there are plenty of options for you to enjoy a bite during the tour.

On board on the train from Oslo to Myrdal and on the express-boat between Flåm, Balestrand and Bergen there is a cafeteria section where you can buy small dishes of hot and cold food, snacks and drinks. They also have options for vegetarians/vegans.

In Flåm and Balestrand you will find quality restaurants in the hotels, which serve tasty local food and drinks. If you prefer a lighter meal drop by the local bakery or the "snack bar". You can also shop in several grocery stores in the towns.
